Terms
The terms, plainly
These are the terms for using Lanterndeck: the website at www.lanterndeck.com and the Lanterndeck app. By using Lanterndeck you agree to them, so they’re written to be read.
Last updated Oct 23, 2026.
What Lanterndeck is
Lanterndeck is for entertainment and self-reflection. It doesn’t predict the future and doesn’t give advice: not medical, legal, financial or any other professional advice. The cards are drawn at random. Each card’s meaning comes from Lanterndeck’s card library, and the notes about your question are written by AI, which can be wrong. Please don’t rely on a reading for a decision that matters, and never use one instead of a professional.
If you’re struggling
Lanterndeck isn’t a crisis service. If you’re in danger, call your local emergency number. There are help lines for your country on the help page.
Who can use it
You need to be 13 or over to use Lanterndeck, and 18 or over to buy a deep reading or the notebook for the year.
Using it fairly
Please don’t use Lanterndeck to harm anyone, to break the law, or to try to make it write something harmful or hateful. Don’t try to get around the free daily limits, overload the service, or copy the card library or the card art for use elsewhere. We may limit or stop access for anyone who does.
Your words
What you write is yours. Your notebook is kept in your browser, or in the app on your phone, and in your account only if you choose. To write a reading, the words you send go to Lanterndeck’s server and to our AI provider; our server doesn’t store them, and they aren’t used to train AI. The privacy page has the details.
What’s ours
The Pencil deck’s card art, the card library, the website and the app are Lanterndeck’s. You’re welcome to share the images of your own cards that the share buttons make.
Buying
The notebook is free. You can also buy one deep reading or a notebook for the year. Prices are shown in your currency before you pay, and both are paid once: nothing renews, and there’s no subscription to cancel.
Purchases on the website are sold by Dodo Payments, our merchant of record. Dodo takes the payment, handles any sales tax, VAT or GST, and emails your receipt, and its own buyer terms also apply to the payment.
- A deep reading is one ten-card Celtic Cross reading on your own question, with three follow-up questions. Drawing the cards starts it, and once it’s written it’s used. An unused deep reading keeps for a year from the day you buy it.
- The notebook for the year opens on the day you buy it and ends on the date on your receipt. It doesn’t renew, and when it ends your notebook keeps everything.
Refunds are in the refund policy.
When things don’t work
We try to keep Lanterndeck running, but we can’t promise it always will. Readings sometimes pause, for example when our AI provider is unavailable. When they do, nothing half-written is shown, and a paid reading that can’t be written is refunded in full. We may change or end features; if we end one you’ve paid for and haven’t had, we’ll refund it.
Responsibility
Readings are for entertainment and reflection, and what you do with them is your choice. As far as the law allows, Lanterndeck isn’t responsible for decisions made because of a reading, and our total responsibility to you is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before a claim. Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have by law as a consumer.
Changes
We may update these terms; the date at the top shows the current version. If a change affects something you’ve already bought, we’ll say so on the site before it applies.
